We purchased our NikonD5000 two years ago to capture the adventure of living in China and the lives of our children. It was fun to learn how to use it, purchase a better lens and start a photography blog.
During August of this year I did six photoshoots. At least 1 hour per shoot...3-5 hours of editing, posting and distributing per shoot...and I ended up spending around 30 hours on photography that month. That may not sound like a lot but to me it felt like way too much! I discovered that I don't like sitting at my computer editing pictures for hours at a time. I discovered that when I get paid I stress over making the pictures perfect and worry that they're inadequate. I discovered I'm not a fan of photographing people I don't know. I love photography best when it's done free, for family and friends. I'm grateful for the August experiment and what I learned from it.
I love to take pictures of my kids (as if you hadn't noticed), but I try not to obsess over getting the PERFECT picture. When all is said and done, my kids are probably just going to care about having any kind of picture. The fun of pictures is the memories, not amazing photography. Pick your battles, right?
And on that note - here is Jaime imitating Vida's "tummy time."

I love the picture and what it shows! Classic! I can relate to the ponderings. We have the great privilege of choosing how we choose our time!
I second your comment, that "pictures are about the memories." I don't have many pictures of myself as a baby. In yet to find one of me under 1 year. But I do have a picture on my siblings looking in through the hospital window/ glass to see me and that's probably one of my favorite pictures because it shows who they were at that time. Kassie has a rat-tail in her hair, lonnie has huge 80s sleaves, and brenna is just tall enough to peak in for herself. good times, good memories :) thanks for sharing
I hear ya! Even though we never started a business or anything, but we LOVE taking pics of our kids and family! I love going back and looking at ALL the memories we captured! Keep up your good work!
